In this Interreg 2 Seas project (duration 2017-2020), ports, companies and research institutes collaborate to reduce CO2 emissions in ports. To this end, methodologies are being developed that ports can use to analyse and reduce their energy consumption and to explore the usage of renewable energy. In addition, new technologies are being tested, such as small wind turbines, floating solar panels, energy pontoons and a local energy platform. Besides concrete business cases for these technologies, the ports make plans to significantly reduce their CO2 emissions by 25% in 2025. We initiated the project, brought the partnership together and wrote the subsidy application. We are currently supporting the partnership with the project’s implementation. The number of partners is 10, The Port of Ostend is Lead Partner, the budget is € 8 million; from which approximately € 4 million consists of the subsidy.
