This Interreg 2 seas project is somewhat similar to I-qua. This project is also about waste water, but in an urban context. By testing new techniques and methods, it investigates whether and how energy, waste and nutrients can be extracted more effectively from local waste water. Is local processing also potentially more efficient and cheaper than large-scale processing? This is going to be clarified by four pilot studies. Large waste water factories participate in this project, and also research institutes, companies and governments. The project started in 2017, has 8 partners and is drawn by Vito (a Flemish knowledge institute in the field of water). The total project budget is approximately € 7 million and the subsidy obtained approximately € 3.5 million. We initiated the project, brought the partnership together and wrote the grant application. The implementation is carried out entirely by the partners themselves.
